         Botanical

The Department is currently conducting botanical studies on an "as needed" basis for environmental permitting of various projects. These studies include vegetation classification, sensitive plant species surveys, and wetland determinations. Typical projects include recreation development, waterfowl brood pond construction, wetland creation (as mitigation under section "404" of the Clean Water Act), and maintenance of project facilities. DWR staff person Gail Kuenster, Environmental Specialist III, is overseeing the botanical work.
